Job Description:
We are seeking a part-time Associate attorney to become an integral part of our legal team based in Northbrook, Illinois. Candidates should be experienced in handling governmental litigation and counseling public bodies on compliance with the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and Open Meetings Act (OMA). The job duties include:
- Providing legal guidance to clients on FOIA and OMA compliance
- Conducting FOIA and OMA training for clients
- Preparing legal updates for clients on OMA and FOIA
- Representing public bodies in court on FOIA, OMA, and other litigation matters
- Drafting pleadings, discovery, and motions
- Arguing substantive motions, taking and defending depositions, and engaging in settlement negotiations
- Assisting in the defense of public bodies at trial and on appeal
- Collaborating with other attorneys and clients to develop compliance and litigation strategies
- Maintaining organized and accurate case files
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school
- License to practice law in Illinois
- 2-10 years of experience handling Illinois FOIA and OMA matters
- 2-10 years of litigation experience defending public bodies
- Excellent legal research and writing skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Self-starter and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Willingness to travel within the state of Illinois as required
Job Type: Part-time
Job Location: Primarily in the IFMK Northbrook office with remote work possible
Benefits: Paid time off, health insurance is available depending on number of hours worked
Schedule: Flexible, approximately 25-30 hours per week
Salary Range: $60-85 per hour, depending on experience
