Illinois Supreme Court Appoints Retired Judge to Fill Vacancy in 5th District Appellate Court
According to the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin, on July 28, 2025, the Illinois Supreme Court has announced the recall and appointment of retired circuit court judge James Hackett to the 5th District Appellate Court. Hackett will fill the vacancy created by the death of Justice Thomas Welch on July 7. The appointment is effective Aug. 8 and will conclude Dec. 7, 2026. Click here to read the full news release,
