IFMK Attorneys Prevail in Central Illinois Jail First Amendment Access to Religion Claim
IFMK Law Shareholder Bhairav Radia and Partner Joe Bracey obtained summary judgment for their clients, a county Jail Administrator and Correctional Officer. Following an escape attempt and statements suggesting other major rule violations, jail officials limited Plaintiff’s access to group worship services but instead allowed Plaintiff to read the Bible in his cell and offered weekly one-on-one appointments with a faith leader. The Court entered summary judgment in favor of IFMK's clients after finding the restrictions in place were objectively reasonable and did not place a substantial burden on Plaintiff’s religious practices.
