A former detainee at an Illinois county jail (the Plaintiff) filed suit in federal court claiming that a corrections officer at the jail violated his constitutional rights by failing to protect him when the officer did not grant his request to be moved to a new cell while in custody.  The Plaintiff alleged that this failure led to Plaintiff being attacked and injured by his cellmate. IFMK Law Attorneys Julie Koerner and Lance Neyland argued in a two-day bench trial on behalf of the officer. The Court entered judgment in the officer’s favor ruling that the office did not fail to protect the Plaintiff because his actions were not objectively unreasonable, as is required to make the claim.
